Gossip Girl: Crashing The Ball

Jenny's about to make her debut as a designer -- with her model pal Agnes's help, they'll crash a high-society charity ball and show New York what J. Humphrey Designs are all about. Not so fast, Little J! Dan and Nate walk into the loft just as she and Agnes are heading for the show. Jenny begs Dan to just let her go to the show, and he reluctantly agrees, with some convincing from Vanessa.
Blair is stuck with a B plot... or should we say an E plot? She's chaperoning Emma, a teenage wild child with very influential parents. If Blair can pull it off, she just might have more clout when it comes to getting into Yale. But instead of movies and ice cream, Emma has more adult plans in mind -- she wants to lose her virginity! And she doesn't really care who the lucky guy is. This leads Blair, Serena and Chuck to chase the girl around town, thwarting her efforts with one guy after another... until they run into Emma's mom -- and she's not exactly having a wholesome evening out. No, she's making out with another man who's definitely not her husband! Blair snaps a photo for future blackmail use.
Oh, and though there were no seduction scenes, the writers still threw Chuck/Blair fans a bone -- Chuck mentioned that sex in the back of a limo is sacred and refused Emma's advances, and Blair told Emma that she was in love with the first guy she slept with (we think the love part came later, but whatever -- she still said it!).
Jenny tells Nate she and Agnes have to get to the show NOW -- and if he really cared about her, he'd come with her. Nate agrees. Once they arrive, Jenny's in for a huge shock -- the charity event is in honor of Lily and Bart Bass! Can she really go through with crashing their event? And what will she say when Lily approaches her? Before Jenny can really think of an idea, Nate saves her and tells Lily they're there together because his mom couldn't make it. And then they kiss, and the kiss is captured on Gossip Girl for everyone to see... including Dan, who's back in Brooklyn with Rufus and Vanessa.
Dan pretty much freaks out and says that they need to get to The Palace immediately, and when the Brooklyn trio of Dan, Vanessa and Rufus arrives, Dan pounces on Nate. How dare he get involved with Jenny! Nate sputters and tries to explain himself, but Dan wants no part of it.
Meanwhile, Serena's involved in a weird game of back-and-forth with artist Aaron. He claims to be single, but every time they interact, she's faced with another woman -- on his bike, in his face, on his phone. She's almost ready to give up, but he sends her the licorice ring from their days back at summer camp. She's about to give up, but Aaron tells her he can explain if she thinks there's hope for them together. They agree to discuss it over dinner.
At The Palace, Jenny tells Nate to stay for her, and he agrees. And then the dullsville charity event becomes a raucous, punky, fashion show -- and it's a success! Even Lily's swinging along to the beat. After the show, Jenny and Nate embrace, only to face a hurt and confused Vanessa. Jenny runs off to explain herself, but V has already left the building.
Blair and Emma return home, and Emma's mom is livid. She banishes Emma to her bedroom and starts tearing into Blair, who's about to produce her blackmail-worthy photo... but she thinks better of it when she realizes it would only hurt Emma. Instead she warns Emma's mom that she'd better spend time with her daughter before it's too late.
Outside, Rufus confronts Jenny and tries to turn her in to the cops! She can't believe it. They're about to take her, but Lily says she won't be pressing charges, thus completely undermining Rufus's authority. Jenny storms off.
Blair gets a call from the Dean. Turns out Emma told him how great Blair is, and finally they've realized that Blair Waldorf is Yale material! Blair and Serena end the episode drooling over the Yale course catalog.
At Casa Humphrey, Dan tells Rufus that Jenny's taken some major risks -- and they paid off. So he's inspired to send his story about "Charlie Trout," aka Chuck, to the Paris Review. Rufus can't believe this -- now he has to worry about both of his kids? Dan says it's too late for Jenny and gestures toward her room. Rufus enters and finds out that his daughter has already moved out.
Chuck pays Nate a visit at his house and can't believe how little the Archibalds have. He tries to get Nate to come home with him, but Nate will have none of it.
Finally, we see Nate contemplate sending a big letter to Jenny, which he finally mails...
....followed by Dan, who's also mailing something -- his manuscript that sells Chuck out. He hesitates for only a second before sending it to Noah Shapiro at The Paris Review...
...Rufus stands alone in Jenny's bedroom, holding back tears...
...Jenny walks down the street, hooded and lugging a couple suitcases. She's out on her own now.
Comments
The golden trio (Blair, Serena and Chuck) running around trying to preserve Emma's virginity is funny. I love me some light Chair interaction. Her face when she tells her the back of the limo is sacred just made me 'awww' and his face when she takes the blackmailing picture practically screamed 'I love her. She's awesome when she's evil and plotting'.
Also loved Serena and Blair acting very friend-like in this episode. Serena all lovey-dovey about Aaron (eek!) and Blair all snap-out-of-it-I'm-self-centered-I'm-an-annoying-yet-cute-way. Lol. At the end of the episode, with her trying to cheer up Blair while she just covered her face with the pillow got me laughing because it reminded of my own best friend.
As for Nate and Jenny, I was first irked by them, but it wasn't like I hadn't see it coming. They were actually cute on this episode, though I find Jenny a bit of an impulsive brat sometimes. But she's just 15, it's difficult to be mature and centered at this age.
I totally get it Dan's freak out. Nate is known for being sort of a douche, and while I think he has feelings for Jenny, he has had feelings for all the main female leads on the show. And for me it's very true to the GG books, because Nate does hook-up with Jenny, Blair, Serena and a hundred different girls.
Thank you for posting this episode review, guys!

blair is a good person now *surprise surprise* and she got into yale WITHOUT blackmailing someone (like she was going to) or for being a famous socialite (like serena lol)
can't wait till next weeks ep!

Thanks for the review, Jackie.
The episode was pretty much amazing, just like any
typical GG episode.
First of all, Nate & Jenny were even more amazing
this episode I must say.
the CHEMISTRY was undeniable and amazing, and feelings
are definitely starting to grow
and I can tell they're both
falling for each other.
It was completely adorable the way
they're around each other.
The ending was heartbreaking, with Nate sending
her a letter, all NJ fans are
going crazy wondering what it says.
and Vanessa just ruined the cute kiss, ugh.
Also,
I did love Chucks line of the back
of the limo being sacred,
& I did love the Blair & Serena scenes,
I like the besties.
